W latach 40. Tango stało się tak popularne, że ta dekada jest nazywana Złotą Erą Tanga. W tym czasie w Buenos Aires działało równocześnie około 200 zespołów tangowych. Najbardziej cenione grały dwa albo i trzy koncerty każdej nocy. Tango rozpowszechniło się dzięki radiu i masowej produkcji płyt winylowych. Jak wspominał Pupy Costello, trener tanga i tancerz: „Mogłeś przejść przez dwadzieścia stacji w radiu i we wszystkich grali tango. W pewnym sensie tango było naturalną częścią życia.”
W tym czasie Argentyna wzbogaciła się niepomiernie na dostawach dla niemieckiej armii. Argentyńczycy mieli pieniądze i chcieli je wydawać na rozrywki, a najlepszą rozrywką było słuchanie i tańczenie tanga. W tym czasie Juan Carlos Cobian, Julio i Francisco de Caro, czy Osvaldo Fresedo kontynuują swoją działalność. Inni wybitni twórcy tanga dołączają do nich. Między innymi byli to: Enrique Santos Discépolo, Carlos Gardel, Aníbal Troilo, Osvaldo Pugliese and Carlos Di Sarli - te nazwiska wybitnych postaci tango pamiętamy do tej pory.
THE GOLDEN ERA OF TANGO: INTRODUCTION
In the forties the tango became so popular, that this decade is called The Golden Era of Tango. There were about 200 musical groups of tango, active at the time in Buenos Aires and the best of them played two or three concerts every night. Tango became the most popular kind of music and dance, thanks to the radio and the mass production of vinyl records. Pupy Costello, tango teacher and performer said: “You could put on twenty stations on the radio and all you would ever hear was Tango (...) You sort of were born with the Tango inside you”.
At this time Argentina was a very rich country, thanks to huge exports of goods required by the German army. People had a lot of money to spend on entertainment, and the best entertainment was of course to listen to and dance the tango. In this period Juan Carlos Cobian, Julio and Francisco de Caro or Osvaldo Fresedo continued their activities. Other excellent creators of tango joined them. Among them were some giants of tango, whose names we remember in modern times, such as: Enrique Santos Discépolo, Carlos Gardel, Aníbal Troilo, Osvaldo Pugliese and Carlos Di Sarli.
